A Child's Words

Besides looking forward to a wedding last weekend, Elijah has been asking about Nana and Papa's return, "I want Nana and Papa to come back because there no snow." We made sure the grandparents heard him to encourage their return. While we could hear the smiling responses to Elijah's request, Hannah was actually the one to influence these"Snow Birds" to return early to their basement abode in the Great White North. It was hard enough for these very involved grandparents to hear both Hannah & Elijah say, "Nana, Papa, the snow melted, you can come back now." When you tell a child that you cannot coexist with the presence of a certain white matter blanketing the ground, when that white matter disintegrates they will notice and keep you to your word. "Well the white matter that cannot co-exist with you has vanished, now you may return!" They forgot that snow, very thankfully(!), doesn't stay on the ground all the way into mid-June (when they were planning their return). They are now coming back before Easter Weekend. Apparently there are many contributing factors but the real heart tugger and knee jerker was Hannah's words over the speaker phone, "I don't even remember what you look like anymore!" It's a good thing my 4-year-old darling doesn't fully comprehend the influential power of her words. Although I think she does have a bit of an idea considering how much she has Daddy wrapped around her little finger.
